On the afternoon of April 3, Chen Hongbing, Editor-in-Chief of CSG, Executive Vice President of CCTA-SLB, and CEO of ISEA, met with a delega from the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in Beijing.

The ICS delegation was led by Chairman Emanuele Grimaldi, Secretary-General Guy Platten, and incoming Secretary-General Thomas A. Kazakos. During their visit to Beijing, the delegation met with the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Transport (including the Maritime Safety Administration and the Water Transport Bureau), the Ministry of Commerce, the Water Transport Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport, China Classification Society, the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry, the Wind Energy Committee of the Chinese Renewable Energy Society, CSG, and ISEA. In-depth exchanges were held on issues of common concern to the global and Chinese shipping industries, such as free trade, green decarbonization, and seafarers, resulting in broad consensus.

During the meeting at CSG, Chen Hongbing extended a warm welcome to the ICS delegation and provided an overview of the development of CSG and ISEA.

He specifically mentioned, "We are currently leading the development and compilation of the 'Group Standard for ESG Evaluation of International Shipping and Logistics Enterprises,' which will be officially released soon. This group standard will fill a gap in this field, guide ESG disclosure and compliance for international shipping and logistics enterprises, safeguard their legitimate rights and interests, and empower their sustainable development."

Chen Hongbing further invited ICS to participate in the 3rd International Supply Chain Logisstics Exposition(ISL Expo 2025), organized by CSG and ISEA from May 21 to 23, as well as the 5th China (Dongjiang) Shipping Industry Week and related forum activities from June 11 to 13. He expressed his hope for strengthened cooperation between the two sides in the field of ESG evaluation.

Guy Platten, Secretary-General of  ICS

Guy Platten emphasized the value ICS places on its cooperation with CSG and ISEA and expressed support for the events organized by them. He also looked forward to further collaboration in the field of ESG evaluation.

He stressed that ICS has always supported multilateralism and free trade while opposing trade protectionism. In the field of decarbonization, ICS recently launched the "Clean Energy Hub Initiative," hoping to engage stakeholders across the clean energy supply chain, including energy producers, port and shipping enterprises, and government departments, to discuss and achieve industry decarbonization goals. He expressed his hope that relevant Chinese parties would join this initiative.

Thomas A. Kazakos, incoming Secretary-General of ICS

Thomas A. Kazakos, incoming Secretary-General of ICS, also stated that ICS and China share common positions on global trade policies, decarbonization of the shipping industry, and seafarer training.
