The 5th China (Dongjiang) Shipping Industry Week grandly opened in Tianjin

On the morning of June 11, the 5th China (Dongjiang) Shipping Industry Week grandly opened at the InterContinental Tianjin Binhai in Yujiapu, Tianjin Binhai New Area.

Guided by the China Communications and Transportation Association and supported by organizations including the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, this year's Shipping Industry Week was jointly organized by China Shipping Weekly, Tianjin Dongjiang Port-City-Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd., and Tianjin Dongjiang Leasing Research Institute. ICBC Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. served as the chief strategic partner.

Attending the opening ceremony were leaders and distinguished guests including Lian Maojun, Member of the Tianjin Municipal Standing Committee and Secretary of the Binhai New Area District Committee; Ni Wei, President of China Shipping Weekly; Wong Sze Fai, Director of Marine Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government; Simon Zhao, Chairman of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association; Li Cailiang, Secretary of the Tianjin Dongjiang Comprehensive Bonded Zone Party Committee and Director of the Administrative Committee; and Zhang Bao, President of ICBC Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., among others.

The conference, under the theme "Enhancing the International Competitiveness of China's Maritime Finance in the Context of Order Reshaping," focused on key issues and practical results. It aimed to further consolidate industry insights, facilitate greater breakthroughs for Tianjin Dongjiang in maritime financial innovation, deepen the "Dongjiang + Hong Kong" cooperation model, and promote integrated port-city-industry development, thereby injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of China's shipping industry.

The opening ceremony was attended by over 500 guests, including representatives from the Tianjin Branch of the People's Bank of China, Tianjin Customs, Tianjin Taxation Bureau, Tianjin Finance Bureau, Tianjin Financial Regulatory Bureau, Tianjin Foreign Affairs Office, Tianjin Maritime Safety Administration, Tianjin Maritime Court, and the Binhai New Area District Committee and Government. Participants also included executives from port and shipping enterprises such as Shanghai International Port Group, COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, China Merchants Energy Shipping, COSCO Shipping Logistics Supply Chain, Tianjin Port Group, COSCO Shipping Lines, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, CMA CGM, SITC International Holdings, Jinjiang Shipping, Sinotrans Container Lines, Pacific International Lines, Headway Shipping, and Lianyungang Port, as well as from leasing companies, manufacturers, financial institutions, intermediary services, and media outlets.

Leasing companies including ICBC Leasing, Minsheng Leasing, Far East Leasing, CMB Leasing, BOC Leasing, ABC Leasing, CIB Leasing, Evergreen Leasing, BOB Leasing, SPDB Leasing, China Merchants Leasing, and Jiangsu Leasing provided sponsorship support for the event. Additional sponsorship was received from companies including CNOOC Leasing, Guohai Company, China Merchants Industry, and Veson Nautical. Banking and insurance institutions such as the Tianjin branches of Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Postal Savings Bank of China, Bank of Communications, and PICC Property and Casualty Tianjin Branch, as well as CITIC Bank Free Trade Branch, also sponsored the event. The total participation in the Shipping Industry Week series events exceeded 800 guests, with cumulative online and offline attendance, including exhibitions and inspections, surpassing 3,500 people.

Tianjin Dongjiang is a hub for China's financial leasing industry. In 2024, Dongjiang’s GDP historically exceeded the 100-billion-yuan mark, reaching 101.37 billion yuan. Throughout the year, it completed leasing businesses for 126 aircraft, 22 engines, 209 ships, and 4 offshore platforms. Cross-border leasing for aircraft, ships, and offshore platforms accounted for 70% of the national total, with cumulative leasing assets exceeding 1.65 trillion yuan. Innovative businesses such as the first cross-customs zone ship "bonded leasing + bonded display transaction," the first export leasing of Tianjin-manufactured ships, and the first bonded operating lease for sailboats have continuously set industry precedents.

In 2025, Tianjin Dongjiang has continued to make strides in marine economy sectors such as marine equipment and smart shipping services. Leveraging the Shipping Industry Week as a key platform, it aims to integrate resources from international shipping centers like Hong Kong, utilize the "financial leasing" golden signboard, and provide significant support for Tianjin Dongjiang’s industrial upgrading and exploration of new development pathways.

In his address on behalf of the organizers, Ni Wei, President of China Shipping Gazette(CSG), stated that Tianjin Dongjiang, as a major shipping industry cluster in China, has achieved remarkable results in promoting the integrated development of maritime finance. Here, financial institutions and shipping enterprises closely collaborate to innovate and launch a series of financial products and services, injecting strong momentum into the shipping industry. He expressed hope that Dongjiang would not only become a source and innovator of China's maritime financial policies but also a platform for China's maritime finance industry to engage with the world.

He noted that 15 years ago, the development and opening of Binhai New Area and the national comprehensive reform pilot program began, presenting Dongjiang with historic development opportunities. On June 11, the industry reached a new milestone—the signing and landing of Dongjiang’s 1,000th leased vessel, reflecting the prominence of Chinese leasing companies in the global ship financing market. However, the current international environment is undergoing profound changes. In response, Dongjiang is forging new paths amid transformation: first, continuously enhancing the optimization effect of top-level design on the leasing institutional environment; second, promoting the global expansion of "capital + manufacturing" through innovative practices; and third, accelerating the construction of a full-cycle leasing industry ecosystem. He emphasized that Dongjiang will strive for greater policy breakthroughs, deeper facilitation reforms, and more open international cooperation in the future.

The conference also featured the release ceremony for the "2025 China Logistics ESG Practice Leading Enterprises."

Zhang Yanchao, Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Shipping Gazette(CSG), explained that "ESG" — Environment, Social, and Governance — has become a crucial global standard for measuring sustainable and high-quality enterprise development. Supporting and guiding logistics enterprises in standardizing ESG goals, regularly disclosing ESG reports, and aligning with international standards for ESG evaluation and third-party authoritative certification are vital measures for promoting the high-quality development of China's logistics industry.

In May this year, China Shipping Gazette(CSG) launched the selection activity for "2025 China Logistics ESG Practice Leading Enterprises." Several companies committed to sustainable development submitted materials such as "Sustainable Development Reports" and "Social Responsibility Reports." After evaluation, companies including COSCO Shipping Holdings Co., Ltd., Yantian International Container Terminals, Shandong Ocean Shipping Group Co., Ltd., Tianjin Port (Group) Co., Ltd., ICBC Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., Xiamen Port Holding Group Co., Ltd., COSCO Shipping Logistics Supply Chain Co., Ltd., COSCO Shipping Ports Limited, and CMA CGM were selected.

In a panel discussion, Liu Xin, Head of the Marine Finance Department at ICBC Shipping Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., served as moderator. Participants included Xu Wei, General Manager of the Shipping Business Department at BOC Financial Leasing Co., Ltd.; Yang Peng, Deputy General Manager of Shandong Huachen Financial Leasing Co., Ltd.; Xu Gang, Vice Chairman of Sumec Marine Co., Ltd.; Zhu Jiafeng, General Manager of the Shipping Subsidiary of AVIC International Leasing Co., Ltd.; and Lai Jianzheng, Vice Chairman and General Manager of Bohai Ocean (Hebei) Transportation Co., Ltd. They discussed the theme "Ship Financing—Adapting to Evolving Markets, Regulations, and International Situations," exchanging views on current market hot topics.

This year's Shipping Industry Week featured a rich array of activities, including the China Maritime Finance (Dongjiang) International Forum, China Shipping Finance Salon, China Maritime Finance Legal Seminar, "China Shipping Top 50 Elites Forum" Dongjiang Meeting, China Shipping Industry Innovation Conference, "Dongjiang Matters Handled in Dongjiang" Special Event, "Golden 60 Seconds"—7th ISEA Cross-Port Business Cooperation Matching Conference, as well as release and award ceremonies for annual port and logistics enterprises, TOP30 innovation cases, and the China Maritime Finance "Star Navigation Award."

Faculty and students from Tianjin Binhai Vocational College provided volunteer services for the conference.
